VOD85: TARA CROSS „Tara Cross 1982-89“ 4LP-Box 65 €

Box incl. Spurt Ditties (1982); Waiting for the War (1983); Concocting Chaos (83); Collaboration-Tracks with Unovidual; Searchlight & Torch (84, with Stefan Tischler of Port Said); Limelight (85); Compilation-Tracks 83-89, Tempus Fugit (88)

Excellent wide-ranging minimal/synth & Wave-tunes by one of the most outstanding female artists in the 80’s cassette-culture and wave/underground releasing a total of 4 Tapes, one Lp and contributing to numerous Cassette- and Vinyl-compilation.

Tara Cross was always exposed to music as a child. Her family, being second generation in the United States from Ireland, kept their roots by filling the household with lots of Irish and American music. Her father was a great singer and an admirer of Bing Crosby and Perry Como. Tara's interest in music awakes at age 13, when she begins to play the guitar. She studies at Hunter College of New York, where she majors in Music and Psychology, yet she decides not to pursue her musical studies in an academic institution, since her primary interest is centered in the performing arts.. Despite the opposition of her family, she devotes her time to her musical career while keeping a full time job in the corporate world. Her jobs ranged from secretary, typist, microfilm supervisor, librarian, magazine publishing company, etc. Tara is the first of six children and needed to help with family finances. In the late 70's and early 80's she moves from Brooklyn into the ! "village" in Manhattan, the center of the art scene in NY, forms punk rock bands and later goes onto experimenting with an Electro-Harmonix mini synthesizer and a primitive drum box. She develops her efforts into a very unconventional, experimental kind of music. In the early to mid 80's, she herself produces, composes and performs her own works, acts as her own public relations, takes care of the administrative and secretarial work, etc, She works mainly at first with cassettes, later going onto reel to reel 4 track, then 8 track, recording everything at home and releasing it worldwide. In 1997. she opens a hair salon, getting out of the corporate environment, called Le Chandelier Salon. As a musician, she considers herself as some sort of sound structurer who experiments with sound the same way as a painter would experiment with colors.

VOD86: VAN KAYE + IGNIT „Anthology 1980-85“ 5LP 75 €

Great, fantastic Minimal-Synth-Tracks from legendary dutch duo Van Kaye and Ignit. Van Kaye alias Ed Van Kasteren (studying history of the arts and being singer of Monomen in the late 70’s) and Ignit Bekken (performing artist, painter and studiying to become an art-teacher) meet in early 1980 and started woking and experimenting with synthesisers. The result was the minimal/synth-classic and highly sought-after Tapes 'A Slight Delay' and "With a Little Help" which they distributed and pubslihed through their own Ding Dong Discs label. Another ex-Monoman, William Wiusselink alias "Wizzkopf", joined the project in 1982 VK&I did run the famous record-label Ding Dong Records & Tapes which published beautifully designed releases of Independent/Wave-artists such as Legendary Pink Dots, Bene Gesserit, Anne Gillis and many more incl. the All-Time-Classic-Must-Have-Co! mpilation „Film Noir“. This Box includes both Tapes „A Slight Delay“ (as 8-Track Demo an 11-Track original Release) and „With a little help“ as well as the ultra-rare "Picasso on the Wall 7“-Tracks, 17 compilation-contributions from 1981-85 (incl. the Radionome-Tracks), 7 unreleased-Tracks/Demos recorded between 80-85 and a 30 minute Live-Concert held in Rotterdam 1983.

VOD87: M.A.L. „The M.A.L.-Tapes“ LP 16 €

One side full of great Minimal/Synth-Tracks from his early 80’s Tapes „Chemistry“, „Two Faces“ and „Outlaw“ on labels like Grafika Airline and Insane Music; the other side with two mind-blowing and -opening electric-guitar-tracks from 1971-74 which will definately touch your consciousness for music-history and hopefully help re-writing it. Alain Neffe of Pseudo Code / Bene Gesserit (Insane Music) participated on two of the pieces. M.A.L.'s cassettes have been remastered in superb sound quality by Anders Peterson almost 40 years after it was recorded for the first time.

VOD88: PSYCHE „Insomnia Theatre - 83-86 3LP-Box with DVD/7“ 55 €

It all started sometime at the dawn of the 80s by two Canadian brothers, Darrin and Stephen Huss while living with their parents in Edmonton, Alberta.

The first and only synthesizer based act in our whole region, we were joined by third member Dwayne Goettel and subsequently formed the band PSYCHE.

A combination of horror and electronics that in the area of Western Canada was completely unheard of and would continue to be considered quite shocking until the music finally caught on. By the time of our highlight performance as support to Britain's ALIEN SEX FIEND in 1984, PSYCHE had lost Dwayne as a member, but with several songs on file, and a number of performances under our belts, we persevered.

PSYCHE started out with a Mattel Synsonics, a little black square that had 4 drum pads (to be heard clearly on Wrench II). The Dr. Rhythm Drum Machine followed, and until we upgraded to the DR. 110 we were recording & performing with our basic set-up of Korg Mono/Poly, Sequential Circuits Pro One, Davolisant String synthesizer, and Dr. Rhythm with which our entire legendary Halloween 1983 performance "Live At Belevedere Hall" was created. It is a small recording wonder that this cassette remains preserved to this day after travelling from Canada throughout Europe, and back again. This entire concert remains one of the most intriguing, and fascinating listens since it was performed, and after a limited CD-R release, several highlights of this, and all other demo recordings from this time appear remastered to vinyl along with our everlasting debut album "Insomnia Theatre". Available once again in it's original format for the first time since it was ! released, and sold out in 1985.

When the Huss family moved to Waterloo, Ontario, Darrin and Stephen took time out from their school work to lay down what would become this official debut album of PSYCHE's music. With fearlessly experimental electro-titles such as "Children Carry Knives", "Psychic Vampire", "Maggots", and "The Brain Collapses". Under the disguised names Evan Panic (Darrin), and Anthony Red (Stephen) PSYCHE, with release on hand prepared themselves for a proper onslaught on the further unsuspecting Canadian audience, and the rest of the world.

This 3 album edition of "Insomnia Theatre" also contains the 4-Track recordings while Dwayne was a member, as well as several rare direct to cassette demos, the tracks of "Tales From The Darkside", as well as our now collectable 12" of "Thundershowers". Plus the monumental "Unveiling The Secret" appears in it's album version to round out the complete vision of PSYCHE's early beginnings from 1983 up to this 1986 breakthrough club hit!

We are proud to present you this deluxe audio experience just over 25 years since we began creating this music for generations to come.

Listen, cherish, relive, and pass it on.

"Insomnia Theatre" Promo video.

VOD89: FOCKEWULF 190 „Microcosmos 1981-1986“ 2LP 23 €

Suberb Synth- and Wave-tunes of Fockewulf 190 incl. the two Italo-Disco-Classic 12“ Body Heat and Gitano plus more demos and so far unreleased treasures like Orient „Express“ collected from the archive of Victor Life

Victor once stated: The Fockewulf 190 project was created as a shape equal to a substance, experimental analogyc electronic music connected to the theatrical and mimic power of rock and the romantic and esthetic force of the electronic dance of thr 80s.We translated those expressive channels with the force of a psychedelic mind folded into a magic and evocative world, an profound research into ourselves. This personal and futuristic mistycism originated the dark side of italo disco .

The publishing ,25 years later, of what should have been our first album in 1986, "Microsmos", shines a light on the sonic creativity of the Fw 190, also because it's a record composed only by simple original demos; something pure and synthetic, uncontamined by commercial compromises.

VOD90: ATTRITION „Demonstro 1981-1986“ 2LP 23 €

Slices of Attrition's earliest existence. A Double-Lp with previously unreleased, rare and demo recordings from the earliest days on Third mind records and beyond. From the initial post punk line up to the early   experiments with analogue electronics in the bands fledgling home studio. Rescued from forgotten cassette mixes and 4 track tapes, restored and remastered by Martin Bowes, including sleeve notes by Third   Mind's Gary levermore, unreleased photos and artwork and available for the first time on  vinyl

In stock soon, the brand new Wierd release by Staccato Du Mal. You already bought the 7" en masse, now it's time to do the same for the full-length. Here's a nice preview.

Staccato du Mal - Solo Baila Sola from WIERD Records on Vimeo.

Today we recieved a huge box from Infrastition: "Cryopack- Cryogénisation Report" 4CD has finally arrived. All 4 tapes that Yves Royer, singer of Guerre Froide, released on his own label Cryogénisation Report in the 80's: two Guerre Froide tapes, one by industrial cold wave sideproject Gegenacht and one from post-Guerre Froide project Pour L'Exemple. All restored and remastered for CD. Released in the same way as the original tapes were in the 80's: in a brown postal envelope. In the case of  Pour L'Exemple also the Flashbacks Futurs  tracks from the sole 12" and the "E Pericoloso..." tape from '92 are added.

For those people who thought Editors went too electronic on their last album here's The Chapman Family (Myspace) postpunk back to its roots with even a little noisy shoegaze element in the mix.

Who thought Neo-Folk started with Death In June should check this out:

Taken from Cromagnon's 1969 Cave Rock album. Now in stock.

3 new releases in stock:

Brand new Belgian label Testtoon Records brings us their first release Terra Incognita LP by Oubys. Experimental dronish ambient, depending on what track you're listening to ;o)
Here's what U-Cover has to say about it:
"Terra_Incognita by Oubys is the first release on the new Belgian label Testtoon Records. Following up on his two acclaimed CDr releases on the U-Cover label, Oubys Terra_Incognita vinyl release delves into even more vast territory. Essentially an exploration of different spaces and different modes of energy, Terra_Incognita uses a distinctly analogue production and mastering design
to lure the listener into a trance-like lullaby, a hypnotic state of altered consciousness if you will. At the same time though, the music plays with a direct expression of organic elements, earthing the listening experience, thus giving it a solid base. The sound of the album should be felt, should be lived. At maximum volume or at low volume, the experience is one of a beautiful paradox. A continous counterpoint of energy materializing and matter being transformed into energy. Mellow washes alternate with sharp, almost piercing sounds, deep sub-tones alternate with hiss. Oubys intention is to confront and subdue, to make space be felt and to translate and transmit energy."

(T)Reue Um (T)Reue are doing their very best this year to release on a regular basis. This time it's a full length by Fiendish Fib and a 12" by  their spacy italo disco offshoot France.
For audiosamples check the respective pages on the TUTRUR site: Fiendish Fib or France

SOPOR AETERNUS – Have you seen this Ghost?      ltdCD+DVD Box/ltd2x12" Vinyl

This is what the distributor has to say about it:
'The second chapter of the trilogy "A Triptychon Of Ghosts - or: El Sexorcismo de Anna-Varney Cantodea"
It's beautiful. It's dark, it's sad and it's ... - so beautiful.
We have no words to adequately describe the enchanted music(k) of SOPOR AETERNUS & The Ensemble Of Shadows' new release. Those of you, who are familiar with ANNA-VARNEY CANTODEA's art, know that s/he (literally) plays in her own league. Generally speaking, her work is always like the forgotten soundtrack to a phantastic, gothic horror film that was never meant for a human audience to see ... - and this album is certainly no exception: Building a bridge from the dark chamber-music of the transitory Death-suite of "Dead Lovers' Sarabande" to the playful frivolity of "A Strange Thing to Say", this highly anticipated second chapter of the trilogy »A Triptychon of Ghosts« marvellously captures the true essence of what once used to be called Goth, as our beloved Goddess ANNA-VARNEY CANTODEA is travelling on her lonely journey through the realms of darkness beyond the grave. –  This is definitely THE BEST ALBUM s/he has created so far!!! ATTENTION: WE EXPECT these versions to be sold out VERY FAST.'

Sir Joe a.k.a. Sergio Bersanetti was the coordinator of Depeche Mode 1st Italian Fan Club founded by Giorgio Minale in the early 80's. Thanks to his wide-range music background he has developed his own emotional music style reminding of artists such as Martin Gore (especially the vocals), Erasure, Gary Numan, Kraftwerk with chill-out, italo-disco, goa-trance, blues and minimal electro influences.  With one his tracks he also took part to a compilation on Future Music magazine.

NABLA OPERATOR**: "tba" debut album CD jewel box featuring Froxeanne of THE FROZEN AUTUMN + a couple of international artists
Nabla Operator is the solo project of The Count, additional keyboarder of THE FROZEN AUTUMN since 2009. Coming from a classical music as well as a gothic-EBM background, he played in several dark-wave and harsh electro bands as well as a well-know Depeche Mode tribute band. With Nabla operator he now proposes a striking, raw yet extremely original, melodic and heavily dynamic electronic music.

VR018 MARTIAL CANTEREL YOU TODAY CD/LP

Wierd Records is proud to present the new LP by Martial Canterel entitled You
Today. Since his first live performances in 2002, Sean McBride, aka Martial
Canterel (who also performs as half of the duo Xeno & Oaklander), has produced a
rich catalog of self-released and limited edition LPs, cassettes, and compilation
tracks. The carefully crafted, private, raw, and often feverishly aggressive 'minimal
synth' sound he has pioneered has been a pillar influence for the Brooklyn minimal
electronics scene and and beyond. Merging the influences of the first wave of
relatively unknown minimal electronic bands in northern Europe, and seminal
industrial noise bands such as Throbbing Gristle and SPK, with the smoothly stylish
songcraft of early British New Wave, Martial Canterel records and performs using
analogue synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines exclusively. Thoughtful yet
distinctly danceable and infectious, this record is the apex of McBride's icily
idiosyncratic sound.
You Today incorporates bright, urgent melodies that snake and and swagger between
major and minor keys. The songs emanate a subtle melancholic darkness and a
rhythmic, militant propulsion keeping things moving against all odds. Lyrically, the
album continues McBride's exploration of the increasing difficulty in trying to
connect with real people and real things as technology renders the material
substance of bodies and objects ever more abstract and distant. This yearning for
unmediated human contact with the world is appropriately echoed throughout the
album by the hands-on, entirely live approach to recording and performance (”the
molding of electricity” as he has referred to his compositional technique.) “Market”
and “Sidestreets” each delve into the disconcerting atmospheres of crowds,
buildings, objects and intimates; the city with its boulevards, by-ways, and dead
ends complicating the meeting of two lost and wandering figures (perhaps lovers?)
The restrained, sensual haze of “The Empty Sand” conjures oceanic imagery while
the title track is a lament to love lost, ambiguously addressing the listener as a
memory image of potential connection and attraction.
The solitary listener can certainly enjoy the music of Martial Canterel, but its
visceral intensity also translates directly to the dancefloor. Amidst a flurry of flesh
in motion, in a blissful atmosphere of material connection with others, the concepts
that permeate the music and its creation become a reality.

VR019 XENO & OAKLANDER VIGILS LP

Wierd Records is proud to announce the release of a vinyl edition of Xeno &
Oaklander's Vigils EP, originally self-released by the band as a limited edition
CDR in 2006, here remastered with a previously unavailable bonus track.
Merging the cold, cinematic aesthetics of artist Liz Wendelbo with the
architectural exactitude of Sean McBride (a.k.a. Martial Canterel), Xeno &
Oaklander have been the sharpest spearheads of twenty-first-century minimal
synth since their formation in 2004. Using analogue synthesizers and
instruments exclusively, the duo record all of their songs live in the studio, a
challenge to the common practice of cut and paste recording where immediacy
is often sacrificed in favor of a far-removed drag and drop electronic
pop.
Recorded in one continuous take on October 1st, 2006, and played to loving
death by all of the DJs at the weekly Wierd party for the past four years,
Vigils has long been a cornerstone and inspiration to a new young generation
of electronic bands in the Brooklyn synth scene and beyond. Uptempo,
echo-laden synthesizers and drum machines provide a spacious backdrop for
Miss Liz's ephemeral vocal presence. Their melodic, mournful oeuvre is an
invocation of a lost future that was abandoned years ago in favor of something
less human. These 8 tracks are both fragile and psychedelic, suggesting
an electronic equivalent of the British shoegaze bands while maintaining the
wildly aggressive stripped-down, raw and unmediated spirit of punk and the
seminal industrial noise groups that informed the ideals of the original wave
of European minimal electronic bands.

RELEASE DATE: January 11th, 2011
TRACKS:
1. An Introduction
2. Départ
3. Zurück
4. Blue Flower
5. Non Senti
6. Vigils
7. Two Eyes
8. Ransack (unreleased)

Coming early 2011:

ANNA 028/MNQ 010 CHROMAGAIN Any Colour We Liked (1982-1985) LP+7”/CD

The first one is the highly anticipated release in co-operation with the wonderful Mannequin label from Rome, Italy. Top-notch Minimal Electro Wave from CHROMAGAIN, hailing from Torino, Italy. Includes their ultra rare and sought-after MLP “Any Colour You Like” from 1985, the song “Ethnicbox” from the “Tracce” LP compilation plus four additional unreleased earlier tracks on the LP+7” vinyl version, and a total of nine additional tracks on the CD version!!! And all those tracks are nothing but amazing, with a more raw edge (wonderful Roland TR-808 drum machine action!) and also showing their (post-)electro-punk roots on their earliest tracks! Surely a true classic and not be missed!

Listen: http://www.myspace.com/chromagain

ANNA 029/MNQ011 INTELLIGENCE DEPT. Sleeping City (1984/85) CD

The second release is another co-operation with the Mannequin label from Rome, Italy. Again, top-notch Minimal Electro Wave from INTELLIGENCE DEPT., hailing from Ferrara, Italy. Includes both their complete and impossible-to-get demo cassettes “Sleeping City” (1984) and “The Big Trouble” (1985), thus also including their well-known beautiful tracks “Sleeping City”, “Anger Inside”, “Too Late To Love” which were also featured on the 1984 LP compilation “A White Chance”, and “Loneliness” from Mannequin’s “Danza Meccanica – Italian Synth Wave 1982-1987” LP/CD compilation, as well as a cover version of “Sister Europe”, originally by The Psychedelic Furs. Additionally, the CD includes four live tracks, “Sleeping City” and “Too Late To Love”, as well as the two previously totally unknown tracks “Nice Faces” and “Black Widow”, recorded live at the Arena Nuovo in Ferrara in 1985, so a total of 13 amazing tracks, beautifully presented in a six-panel digipak.

ANNA 030 PAUL CHAMBERS Stations/Absorptions (1978-1983) LP+CD set

The third release will be a comprehensive LP+CD set by PAUL CHAMBERS hailing from the UK and being known for his contribution of the two stunning tracks “Steering Solo” and “Take A Ticket” to the “The Apprentices Dance” LP compilation from 1981. PAUL CHAMBERS was quite a pioneer of dark minimal electronic music, starting to record already in 1978! He used a Boss DR-55, Roland SH-1, Korg MS-20 and EDP Wasp, just to name a few and nothing but pure analogue synthesizer bliss! The LP “Stations” comprises 12 tracks including the majority of his rare vocal tracks (thus also including “Steering Solo” and “Take A Ticket”), recorded between 1979 and 1983, which mark milestones of the Minimal Electro Wave genre. The CD “Absorptions” comprises instrumental tracks recorded between 1978 and 1981, which can easily be lined up with the recordings by Chris Carter/Throbbing Gristle from around that time! Finding Paul and unleashing his archives was truly a revelation, so that a total of 27 raw minimal electronic wave tracks from the very early days are now finally seeing the light of day after 30 years time!

VOD78: HUNTING LODGE “Shadows out of Time - 82-83” 3Lp/7”-Box - 55€

Shadows out of Time is a collection of three LP's with unreleased and formerly
cassette-only material from Hunting Lodge, representing the first blush of their
creativity, a time when each sonic experiment festered into a beautiful sore.
Dark Ambient, Noise, Power Electronics, all represented here before these pigeons
had holes in which to fit. One LP is comprised of the now-legendary EXHUMED,
which was formerly released cassette-only, heard here in better shape than ever -
direct-metal mastered from the original two-track mixes.
The second LP is all unreleased material, highlights of which include never-heard
gems from the recordings for the promotional cassette 23 MINUTES OF MURDER.
On the flip-side, both literally and figuratively, are the electro-disco-teckno recordings
used for intermission music at Hunting Lodge live shows in 1983.
The final LP contains Live material which was formerly cassette-only, including tracks
from AT THE HARRINGTON BALLROOM and S/M OPERATIONS LIVE, as well as
much of the formerly unreleased LIVE AT THE LODGE.
Oft-bootlegged, this performance is pressed here direct from the original masters,
representing the two-piece early noise-unit of Hunting Lodge in harrowing live
intensity. Furthermore featured in the Box-Set is an additional Bonus 7"
including studio cover version of John Wright's „Stellazine Shuffle“ b/w „Learn
to Will II“,formerly released on Nekrophile Rekords "Beast 666" cassette
compilation in 1983 These LP's and 7“ are presented with period-accurate,
gloriously bold, black and white artwork. Each LP comes in it's own printed sleeve
inside of a box printed with the Thomas Nordstrom artwork previously only seen on
early Hunting Lodge stationery. Also included are liner notes by Jeff "Central"
Chenault and recording details, including information on equipment used, and never
before seen photos of live Hunting Lodge and of collectors minutiae. The scars will
never completely heal.

VOD79: SLEEP CHAMBER “SixSixSix“ 4LP with 7“ / Booklet - 67€

Six Six Six iz a collection ov material from the first 6 years ov SLEEPCHAMBER.
Mastermind John Zewizz gave permission to Brad Miller
(theebradmiller.blogspot.com) and Frank of VOD to choose the tracks.
The outcome reveals and demands for a renewed and extended perception of Sleep
Chambers artistic synthesis of the last 30 years
On Lp1 as well as the 7“ you will find pure and very strong minimalsynth-tunes from
his very early "cassette"- only releases like „Ze Wizz Kidz“(released 82 but recorded
in 79/80), „Dream Distillate“(82) or „Music for Mannequin“(83).
Lp2 and Lp3 reveals so far unreleased recordings from 82 to 87 that range from
minimal to the typical percepted Sleep Chamber-Sound as known from the mid 80’s.
The two Lp’s are furthermore riddled with alternative versions, demos and
unreleased tracks, based around the Admit to Desire-period.
Any SLEEPCHAMBER admirer would be in the Garden ov Eden with such a selection
especially when listening to Lp4 which is an unreleasd Lp called „Seremony“,
recorded in the beginning of thee Satanic Sanction Session in 1985/86.
This completes the leak ov the SLEEEPCHAMBER vaults for another six years...

VOD80: VOICE OF EYE 2LP „ Anthology One 1989-91“ 2LP - 23€

Anthology One is culled from the first three cassette releases by Voice of Eye;
Isolation, Voice of Eye and Resonant Fields / Hot Gypsy Fink Hell, all three Tapes
released on thier own Cyclotron Industries Label between 1989-1991. These are the
earliest recordings by Voice of Eye. Voice of Eye can be doubtlessly described as
the protagonists and godfathers of the special genre of Ambient-Ritual-Music. Their
specialty is "organic sound sculpting": a form of electronic ethnic ambient music that
relies mainly on electronic drones and manipulated instruments including
instrumentation with special self-built instruments. The music is all improvised over a
period of two years and covers the evolution of their early sound. It will immediately
catch your attention and pulls you into an altered but extremely positive state of mind.
This is the first in a series of Anthology releases documenting hard to find Voice of
Eye material and previously unreleased recordings to be released on several labels
in the near future.

VOD81: RAPOON „Ghosts from a machine“ 1989-94 3LP-Box - 50€

Rapoon is the ethno-ambient solo project of Zoviet France co-founder Robin Storey.
The music of Rapoon reflects the fasctination for the minimalistic but rhythmic music
of West-Africa and India.
Rapoon uses the musical construction techniques of loops and rhythmic repetition as
a kind of platform for inducing a sort of trance like reception.
The tracks chosen on this Box-Set are taken directly from the original 4 track
cassettes. These recordings are sometimes copies of complete mixes that found
their way onto released albums , sometimes sub-mixes and parts of mixes, and
sometimes elements that were never used in any released material.
Working with multiple 4track machines which remained non-synchronised, these are
the re-discovered compositions which have remained hidden until now.
